What stays classic
If you know OGame, you can play Deuteria on day one. The resource triangle of metal, crystal and deuterium is the same. So are the shape of the research tree, the familiar ship classes from Small Cargo to Deathstar, the fleet missions, the galaxy view, espionage reports, debris fields and moons with their Sensor Phalanx and Jump Gate. Fleetsaving before you log off is as important here as anywhere.
What Deuteria changes
- Speed. The economy runs at ×100. Storage reaches the quintillions and fleets reach the trillions of ships.
- Expeditions. A main income stream. Resource and ship finds scale with the fleet value you commit, and deep space adds anomalies, permanent relics and NPC captains with bounties on them.
- The Academy. Three account-wide talent trees, Miner, Commander and Discoverer, paid for with Academy Points you earn by playing.
- Lifeforms. Every planet starts Human. Rock'tal, Mechas and Kaelesh are discovered on expeditions or unlocked with Dark Matter, one race per planet.
- Officers. Ten account-wide officers that you level up with Dark Matter, each level a permanent bonus.
- Autonomous empires. AI empires mine, scout, raid, dodge attacks and colonise around the clock beside the human commanders.
- Alliance wars. Declared by member vote, scored by the engine at every battle and ended by peace, surrender or a score threshold.
- Capstone research. Late-game technologies such as the Stellar Forge, Graviton Resonance and Planetary Fortification.
- One login. A single account across universes, chosen in the lobby. Accounts are permanent.
When OGame is the better choice
Stay with OGame if you want the original game from its publisher, a universe with a long history and a far larger player base, or the exact rules of a universe you already love. Deuteria is a younger, smaller project with one live universe. If that is a dealbreaker, OGame is the safer pick.
When Deuteria is the better choice
Pick Deuteria if you want the classic loop at high speed, late-game systems that keep paying off, a universe that is busy at every hour, and a premium currency you can earn by playing. If that sounds right, the OGame alternative page goes into more detail, and the beginner's guide gets you started.
